Of Vanilla Smiles and Strawberry Kisses

Continuing with this month’s theme of pop and philosophy, I have The Cure’s “Mint Car” for you today. The Cure do plenty of happy numbers, but this one’s, like, the definition of what it is to be happy. Sample this:

The sun is up
I’m so happy I could scream
And there’s nowhere else in the world I’d rather be
Than here with you, it’s perfect
It’s all I ever wanted
Oh I almost can’t believe that it’s for real, so pinch me quick.

  1. “Like” is insufficient here Amrita!
It’s funny, without hyperbole, I’ve heard the song hundreds of times, but never knew what he said after ‘for real’ – you learn something new every day!

    1. I love this video! Among other things, it reveals how to achieve his signature red lipstick look – immediately lick after application! Love his histrionics in this too.

I can’t make out what he says during the instrumental break after the second verse – when he’s under the table at the 60’s party.

I listened to Wild Mood Swings yesterday. Quite a few stand out tracks for me – Want, This is a lie, Strange Attraction. The 13th is a weird one, even for them I think, but it was only the first listen, haven’t made up my mind yet!

      1. I’m pleased you gave it a spin!
It’s one of those albums that I’m completely unreasonable about – probably just as well it’s not on the 1001 list as I’d have trouble stringing together a review!
