Of The Look Of Love

If you judge a book by the cover
Then you judge a look by the lover

Or

Your reason for living’s your reason for leaving
Don’t ask me what it means.

Two fantastic sets of ‘words of wisdom’, eh? I truly believe some of the best pieces of wisdom are out there in the most brilliant, perfectly perfect pop records. ABC’s “The Look of Love” is a fine example of this. Wish all the philosophy in the world was accompanied with the cry: “Yippee Yeah Yippee Yeah Yay ay…”

  1. I discovered it through a list Robert Smith made of the top 80s records (sans The Cure). It’s so infectious and happy. Many a lyricist would like to end a lyric with “Don’t ask me what it means”, wouldn’t they?

    1. I didn’t find any recording by Roberta Flack called “The Look of Love”. There are a few different songs called “The Look of Love” out there. Diana Krall has one, for example.

I do love Madonna. I didn’t exist for most of the 80s (was born in the tag end!) but I appreciate much of its music retrospectively.
