Solitude

Solitude
I must obey your rules.

First,
Be alone in my tasks
But, serve companies.

Second,
Don’t fret over a broken heart
Mend by paying audience to symphonies.

There is music in silence
And human comfort in being solitary.

Solitude is but preparation
For music and love,
As Rilke would have me believe.

I must learn to cherish you
Even if my desperate spirit
Lays claim to all humanity.

Make me your friend, Solitude
It is so much colder to be a stranger to you.

    1. Beautifully written, Mahitha! I had never thought of solitude in terms of being such an acute meditative exercise. Thank you for sharing a different perspective on it!
