DOJ: Mueller report to be released Thursday

The Justice Department is anticipating a Thursday morning release of the public version of the report submitted by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The Justice Department is planning to release the 400-page report to both Congress and the public.

Barr set off a political firestorm after he released a four-page summary of Mueller's report to Congress, in which he indicated the special counsel had not found evidence of criminal collusion or conspiracy between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation during the 2016 election cycle.

President Donald Trump borrowed the "never forget" slogan from 9/11 remembrance to attack the investigation of his campaign ties to Russian Federation. They have zeroed in on Mueller's decision to punt on whether Trump had obstructed justice, which Barr said "leaves it to the attorney general to determine". Barr said that while Mueller's team did not recommend charges for obstruction, they also did not exonerate Trump on that question.

Mueller turned over a copy of his report to the attorney general on 22 March.

Over the past several weeks, a small group of Justice Department officials has been scouring the document to redact grand jury information and details relating to pending investigations, among other materials.

Justice Department regulations give Barr, a Trump appointee and the top US law enforcement officer, broad authority to decide what to release and what to withhold from the report.

Barr has been under pressure from Democrats to release the full report, without redactions. It will have color-coded redactions.

"In other words, (Barr) thinks as a matter of law a president can't obstruct justice, which is a very wild theory to which most people do not agree", Nadler said. "Answer - Dirty Cops, Dems and Crooked Hillary!"

"When he [Barr] said in his four-page letter that the government could not establish the existence of a conspiracy-he meant it could not establish it beyond a reasonable doubt", the judicial analyst argued last month, shortly after Barr's summary was released.

As Barr's standoff with House Democrats continues, at least one influential Republican - Representative Devin Nunes - has signed on to an effort to demand that the Attorney-General provide the House Intelligence Committee with any redacted intelligence and counterintelligence information Mueller considered in compiling his report.

"The House Judiciary committee will subpoena it", he said.
