Facebook Crashes, Leaving Users Unable to Access Their Accounts

Facebook has acknowledged that its family of apps is going through troubles and promises to resolve the issue ASAP.

On Wednesday's issue, Ms Brooker added on Twitter: "Look at what happens when we let one company control everything".

When confirming the platform-wide issue, Facebook shut down speculation that the site may have been targeted by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

The issue was also impacting Instagram. Individual users have been able to post sporadically throughout the outage.

Facebook and Instagram are down, forcing us bleary-eyed technophiles out into the world, where we are forced to make conversations with family members and friends and trudge our underwhelming days through the frightful, distinctly boring meatspace of reality.

As Facebook's outages dragged on, Twitter lit up with complaints and comments - and, of course, memes and jokes.

The Verge has reported that some users are unable to make purchases through the Oculus Store or log into multiplayer games purchased for the Oculus.

While Facebook is down, Twitter is working and full of fun reactions.

Facebook has been suffering from outages across the world since around 12pm ET Wednesday.
