Apple is reportedly taking a hard line with publishers during its negotiations for a proposed news subscription service. Corroborating previous reports about Apple's TV plans, the report claims that Apple's original content will be available for free for iOS users and will also enable users to seamlessly sign up for streaming packages from other content creators.

From a timing perspective, it seems entirely possible that Apple finally gives the world a look at its video service at its upcoming event, rumored to be happening at the end of March. Apple Music, for example, continues to grow at an impressive clip, with Tim Cook revealing during the company's most recent earnings conference call that the music streaming service now has upwards of 50 million subscribers.

In terms of non-original programming, reports suggest that viewers will get the option to subscribe to programming from Starz; CBS and Viacom and other partners through Apple's platform.

However, Apple has been holding events in March for years, so it's not entirely surprising news.

Among the products that are expected to be released by Apple Inc. this year are the Apple AirPods 2 and the new Air Power wireless charger.

US Defense Chief: 'Significant Progress' Against Islamic State in Syria
Near the battlefield, an SDF spokesman at the Omar oil field turned military base said "progress is slow". The SDF official also said high-level Islamic State commanders had not been captured yet.

If the rumor proves to be true, the AirPods 2 release date could coincide with the iPhone 11's predicted launch date in early September.

Did you know we have a YouTube Channel? It is also reported that Apple will announce a new news service at the event. Sources tell BuzzFeed News that the company plans to hold a special event on March 25 at the Steve Jobs Theater on its Apple Park campus. The New York Times and the Washington Post are said to be among the publishers that are not happy with Apple's terms.

For now, we will have to wait until Apple officially announces its new service to learn more. Paid subscriptions though the iOS news app could roll out as early as March 25.

CNBC also notes that the core of the argument may be Apple's push for a 30 percent cut of sales made through its service.

Apple declined comment Wednesday when contacted by Deadline.
