Sixers trade Fultz to Magic

When I wrote about my idea Fultz trade scenario, a swap for Antonio Blakeney initially suggested by Bill Simmons; I hypothesized that the team should not only attempt to add a player who fits their win-now mode but also has a team friendly contract moving forward, and Markelle's nearly $10 million a year deal would have hampered their potential moves in July.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Fultz has been traded to the Magic in exchange for Jonathon Simmons, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick.

The selection of Fultz won't turn out to be a complete wash for the 76ers, but the return of a first-round pick from a projected playoff team, a second-round pick and Simmons pales in comparison to the haul of the No. 3 overall pick and additional first-round pick they sent the Celtics to select him.

Fultz's struggles with the Sixers have been well documented, as the former No. 1 overall pick has played in just 19 games this season.

With his trade Wednesday for Tobias Harris, Brand clarified the Sixers' window. The future beyond this season is uncertain for the Sixers. Outside of one game where he recorded a triple-double, Fultz offered nearly nothing to the team during his time with the Sixers. He may very well forge a good National Basketball Association career for himself, but it made little sense for Brand to bargain that he'd do so in Philadelphia. Both present much more immediate value than Fultz - his current value, sitting on the bench in street clothes, is zero.

Markelle Fultz is still searching for his shot. Furthermore, Elton Brand has made it clear that the Sixers are in win-now mode, trying to make a run this season.

The Sixers get Jonathan Simmons who's an excellent perimeter defender, but isn't a great 3-point shooter. Brothers said the condition is the reason for Fultz's shooting woes and that his client would remain sidelined at least three to six weeks.
