Trump invites top lawmakers for border briefing

San Diego lawmakers responded Friday to President Donald Trump's comments about border wall construction and funding as the government shutdown stretched into day 13. Nearly certainly, Trump would be charged with abusing his power, or impeachment articles would be drafted and passed onto the senate, where Republicans would be forced to come to Trump's aid or else finally denounce the party's embarrassment of a leader-unless this rock-solid argument persuaded them otherwise. While providing additional money for border fencing and other border security, the spending bill package would not provide funding for the president's long-desired concrete border wall, which in recent weeks has transformed into a wall with "steel slats".

President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday the USA federal government may not fully reopen any time soon, as he stood firm on his demand for billions of dollars in funding for a border wall with Mexico.

He dismissed those concerns in a news briefing at the White House.

About a quarter of the federal government is shut down, with roughly 800,000 workers affected.

"Absolutely I said that", fired-back Trump.

According to a source familiar with the White House discussion, Trump opened the meeting with a speech that lasted at least 15 minutes in which he insisted on the need for billions of dollars to fund a border wall. Asked if declaring a national emergency was a threat hanging over Democrats, Trump said, "I'd never threaten anybody, but I am allowed to do that, yes".

Tesla drops the price of all of its vehicles by $2,000
The decision to cut prices sent the company's shares value even lower than recent reports of a huge, unliquidated USA inventory. That suggests many consumers are still waiting to buy versions of the vehicle at the long-promised $35,000 sticker price.

Weekend talking points: What on earth was Arsenal's defence doing against Liverpool?
Sokratis was adjudged to have fouled Salah for a first half penalty, which was converted by the Egypt worldwide to put the Reds into a 4-1 lead.

Trump calls the wall crucial to curbing illegal immigration, echoing his 2016 presidential campaign pledge. "It's called a national emergency".

The House Democrats' measure does not contain the $5 billion Trump wants in wall funding.

Democrats, who won control of the House in the November elections, plan to approve on Thursday a two-part spending package meant to end the shutdown.

In a December 11 meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, Trump said he would be "proud" to shut the government over the security issue and would not blame Democrats.

Federal agencies such as the Justice Department, Commerce Department and departments of Agriculture, Labor, Interior and Treasury have been hit by the shutdown.
