Trump says he answered Mueller questions, not his lawyers

US President Donald Trump said Friday that he had written answers to questions submitted to the White House by the Russian Federation probe of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"The questions were answered by me", Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House, stressing that his lawyers don't help him with the answers.

Giuliani has said Trump will answer questions on possible collusion with Russian Federation during the election, but will not respond to questions over potential obstruction of justice committed by the president. "And you know why it's going to be just fine?"

In a two-paragraph legal filing on Wednesday, Mueller offered a rare glimpse into the status of the probe and noted that former Trump presidential campaign aide Rick Gates is cooperating with prosecutors in several ongoing investigations.

"I write the answers".

"There should have never been a so-called investigation, which, in theory, it's not an investigation of me", he said. Though the president at one point said he would be willing to speak with Mueller, he eventually reneged on his offer on the advice of lawyers, who fear he will not be able to deal with prolonged questioning.

A team of investigators led by Mr Mueller is looking into whether anyone from Mr Trump's campaign colluded in the effort.
