According to the bar's website, a "College Country" night was going on at the time of the shooting.

Authorities said that they responded to a "shots fired" emergency call, and that some officers on arrivals heard shooting.

Multiple people were seen being led out of the bar by deputies.

Reports say the suspect may have used smoke grenades as well as a gun in the attack.

Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Garo Kuredjian said he could not confirm whether any of those shot were dead.

He could not immediately provide information on the extent of the victims' injuries or if any others had been hospitalized.

At 11:55pm, law enforcement reported that a California Highway Patrol officer had engaged a suspect and that a man matching the description was down with three gunshot wounds.

Firefighters and first responders have arrived on scene and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office is working to secure the scene.

The incident was reported at the Borderline Bar and Grill in the town of Thousand Oaks, a quiet, upscale residential suburb of Los Angeles, as it hosted an event for college students.
