Representatives for the FAA's aircraft certification service confirmed that airlines will have three days after receiving the AD to revise the certificate limitations chapter of their 737 MAX aircraft flight manuals.

Indonesian accident investigators said on Monday that an airspeed indicator on the crashed jet was damaged for its last four flights, but USA authorities responded cautiously to suggestions of fleet-wide checks.

The directive gives regulatory weight to Boeing's safety bulletin that it sent to operators of Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 planes based on findings from the ongoing Indonesian investigation into the October 29 crash of a Lion Air jet.

False readings from the sensor can cause the aircraft to pitch downward in an attempt to avoid a stall when the plane is not being flown on autopilot.

These included erroneous speed and altitude data that prompted a flight operated the day before the crash to go into a dive that frightened passengers and a made them sick.

While the investigation is ongoing, it's believed that the plane reported a problem with its AOA sensor, which measures the risk of a stall. "Is this fatal? NTSC (National Transportation Safety Committee) wants to explore this", he said.

Airline safety experts said pilots are trained to handle a plane safely even if those crucial sensors fail. Chairman Soerjanto Tjahjono said the airspeed indicator and sensor problems are related.

There are audio signals and physical warnings that can alert the pilot to malfunctioning equipment or other dangers, said Todd Curtis, director of the Airsafe.com Foundation.

Amazon also reportedly felt that a split would expand the pool of computer engineering talent available for jobs. The company had been accepting proposals for its new facility, which is expected to cost around $5 billion.

Investigators are likely focused on how a single sensor's failure resulted in a faulty command that didn't take into account information from a second sensor, said John Cox, CEO of Safety Operating Systems.

Under the subject heading, the Boeing bulletin says: "Uncommanded Nose Down Stabilizer Trim Due to Erroneous Angle of Attack (AOA) During Manual Flight Only".

The DGCA official said if the condition is not addressed, it could cause the flight crew to have difficulty in controlling the airplane.

"A "ping" has been detected from the second black box but the signal was very weak, possibly because it was encased in mud", said Nurcahyo Utomo, an air accident official at the transportation safety committee (KNKT).

CBS News reported on Wednesday that Boeing's 737 Max 8 planes are used across the US, including by Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines.

Indonesia's search and rescue agency on November 7 extended the search effort for a second time, saying it will continue until Sunday. The data from the flight recorder and Boeing's statement have provided the first clues, but rescuers are still searching for the device that records voices in the plane's cockpit.

Everyone on board was killed when it plunged into the sea moments after takeoff.

Lion Air is one of Indonesia's youngest and largest airlines, flying to dozens of destinations at home and internationally.
