KIMI Raikkonen has won a tense US Grand Prix, breaking the record for most races between victories in Formula 1 history, while Daniel Ricciardo vented his frustration in the paddock after retiring on lap eight.

Ricciardo was sitting in fourth on the ninth lap of the race when his vehicle conked out on him - his fifth DNF in 10 races.

Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo had a mixed weekend at the United States Grand Prix, but before the racing got underway, their team gave them a little treat.

Ricciardo will race just three more times before his tumultuous partnership with Red Bull ends and he joins Renault, where he will earn three times his current salary.

Red Bull, however, will switch to Honda power units next year and Marko thinks that will put the team on the correct trajectory for Max Verstappen to win the Drivers' Championship in 2019 - something which will only add to the frustration of Ricciardo. "He's taken out his frustration in his room by putting his fist through the wall which you can totally relate to". He doesn't blame the team in any way, he knows we are doing everything we can, it's just one of those things, ' he said. "We've got another energy store within the allocation without having to take a penalty". I'm sure he'll have a few words with his future employer about it.

The 21-year-old was forced to retire in Bahrain and Azerbaijan in the early weeks but has since improved and built on his only win of the year so far in Austria in July with a third-place finish in Belgium before he was second in Singapore.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes a tough start to the season has helped shape Max Verstappen into a "more rounded" driver.

"We are hoping that with the altitude of Mexico it will concertina the engines a bit", said Horner. "I think with both cars in the race we'd have seen both cowboy suits on the podium".

The Australian has experienced some relative success this season, winning two Grands Prix in Monaco and China respectively.
