NBC Makes it Official: 'Megyn Kelly Today' Is Over

NBC's "Today" show hasn't strayed away from covering news about its own staff in the past and Friday was no exception when the news team confirmed Megyn Kelly's departure from the network.

Megyn Kelly speaks onstage during Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit - Day 2 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, on October 13, 2015.

Echoing a report by NBC News, which cited a source presumably from within the network, TMZ said Kelly's lawyer Bryan Freedman wanted to meet with NBC executives to negotiate an exit on Friday.

Unfortunately for those expecting any kind of inside scoop from the reporters who work with Kelly, the package that aired only served as a confirmation of everything that was previously reported.

That will be sad news for a few of her former co-workers, with Geraldo Rivera having shown his support earlier in the day by tweeting: 'Since she's made an apparently heartfelt apology for grossly misguided remarks, how about showing some mercy to an otherwise good person?

Farrow famously exited NBC News when the division declined to broadcast his report about women's claims against Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein, claiming it was not ready for broadcast.

The network on Friday again aired a repeat of "Megyn Kelly Today" just as it did Thursday following this week's controversy.

Her comments prompted criticism online, even among her fellow NBC colleagues.

Regardless of when and how she found out, fans of Hall were not pleased, particularly since she was the first black female anchor on "Today" and her replacement had previous controversies surrounding race (like the time she insisted to children watching her Fox show that Santa Claus is white and always will be).

"Megyn Kelly Today is not returning", an NBC News spokesperson said.

Kelly signed an approximate 3-year, $69 million contract with the network in late 2017, and ended up making about $25 million a year. "They should also admit that they lie when they say they are opposed to bigotry in all of its manifestations".

"Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween". Kelly, meanwhile, is now negotiating her exit from NBC.

Kelly's first season averaged almost 2.4 million viewers, 375,000 fewer than the "Today" show 9 a.m. hour had before she arrived.

Other sources said that the Friday talks wound up being over-the-phone.

That would be all the money she's owed.
