In a tweet, Trump said the report was "soooo wrong!" and insisted "I only use Government Phones".

"The New York Times has a new Fake Story that now the Russians and Chinese (glad they finally added China) are listening to all of my calls on cellphones", Trump said on Twitter.

"The Times - as it usually does - cited several current and former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity so they could discuss classified intelligence and sensitive security arrangements".

They said the Chinese have determined a list of contacts with whom the president speaks most frequently.

But despite China's amusing reaction, the NYT report raises serious alarms in regards to both President's Trump understanding of security protocols, but also the mobile telephony protocols, through which Chinese and Russian spies are allegedly spying on the president's mobile calls. "He has one official government iPhone", White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said. "There were lots of people who were anxious about this".

The issue is not what type of smartphone is used, but that any unsecured communication over a cellular network is vulnerable to surveillance by a foreign government. "I like Hard Lines", he wrote.

Less than half-an-hour before he attributed the "Anger we see today in our society" to the "Fake News", Trump railed against the story in the Times.
