Earl Thomas Reports To Seahawks, Will Play Out Final Year Of Contract

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys increased their trade offer for Thomas to a second-round pick over the past week, but that the Seahawks are seeking more than that in return. But he is apparently reporting nonetheless, the latest step in a story that began past year when he began making rumblings of wanting a new contract, and a story that likely has many more chapters to come.

Ian Rapoport said "until something changes, Thomas is not expected to report and play for Seattle".

Thomas skipped the entire preseason while waiting for a contract extension - one that would likely pay him in the ballpark of $12 million per year based on the safety market in today's NFL.

But it all may be moot now, as Thomas plans to report to the Seahawks today after holding out all offseason and training camp in hopes of a new contract, per a source.

"With that being said, the disrespect has been well noted and will not be forgotten", Thomas wrote after indicating he wouldn't let his teammates down this weekend. But the source stressed the team is comfortable enough with what's in place at the moment that it won't offer Seattle more than a second-round pick for the 29-year-old safety. Those are all at team discretion, though, and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Seahawks "did agree to wipe away nearly all of his fines". Sherman was released by Seattle in the off-season and signed with San Francisco.

According to National Football League insider Adam Schefter, the Cowboys upped their trade offer to the Seattle Seahawks by dangling a second-round pick in exchange for the six-time Pro Bowler.

Seattle had been thought wanting at least a second-round pick all along with it thought Dallas had not offered more than a third.

Thomas is a three-time first-team All-Pro and was the anchor for the Seattle defence that appeared in consecutive Super Bowls, winning the first.

Thomas played for 14 games (all starts) for the Seahawks last season and recorded two interceptions and a touchdown to go with 88 total tackles.
