Emma: Khalil Mack Is A Defining Addition For Bears

Just one day after the Los Angeles Rams made Aaron Donald the highest-paid defender in National Football League history with a $135 million deal, the Chicago Bears topped it with Khalil Mack. It seems that the Bears have offered up what was asked and then some. In 2019 they would have been required to use the franchise tag if they hoped to continue paying him under the league premium. But a team trying to accomplish big things in the near term does not willingly part with a player of Mack's caliber.

Two weeks of the season just got a little bit easier.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the odds of Mack leaving the Raiders might actually be better than the odds of him staying. Now that the five-year veteran will be bringing his vicious skillset to the Bears' defense, their rankings all across the board have great potential to elevate from last season. He racked up 78 tackles and 10.5 sacks a year ago, and registered 40.5 sacks in 64 career games with Oakland.

While Chicago is poised to pay a hefty price tag of draft picks for Mack, the Bears don't expect to be selecting in the top 10 next spring.

They say money only makes you more of what you already are, and that would be good news for Chicago.

A three-time Pro Bowl pick, Mack is also the best pass rusher acquired by the Bears since they signed Julius Peppers away from Carolina with a six-year deal in 2010.

Raiders rookie defensive end Arden Key tweeted an emoji, seemingly not happy with the trade. Much of that apparently had to do with Jon Gruden.

As the Raiders look to sell themselves to a new market and draw talent worthy of headlining in Vegas, in just one (non) move, they have established a reputation of not being a star-friendly team.

The previous bar was set Friday, when the Los Angeles Rams and defensive tackle Aaron Donald finalized a contract worth $135 million, with $87 million guaranteed.

Bears left tackle Charles Leno published on social media a video of himself dancing to Mark Morrison's 1996 jam "Return of the Mack". The Raiders also think they can turn back the clock on 29-year-old running back Doug Martin, adding more punch in the backfield behind 32-year-old Marshawn Lynch.
