Storm Ophelia - a tropical revolving storm which hit Ireland's south coast - evolved from the strongest eastern Atlantic hurricane in a century.

The system could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain Saturday across the Cabo Verde Islands before it moves further into the Atlantic Ocean.

The hurricane center's forecast cone shows Potential Tropical Cyclone Six continuing in that same direction before beginning a turn to the north Tuesday.

The last time the islands had to deal with a tropical storm or hurricane was when Hurricane Fred plowed across the islands exactly three years ago.

It will continue to strengthen over the next few days as it continues on its path this way, but should not gain hurricane status.

The National Hurricane Center continues to watch two areas in the tropics.

The first is a tropical wave over the Caribbean that has the potential to move into the Gulf of Mexico by the middle of next week.

If the storm is named it will be called Florence. In addition, late August to mid-September marks the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, with September 19 being the climatological pinnacle of the season.

A third tropical wave is forecast, by at least one model, to emerge from the African coast around Sept 7 or 8. Helene is still an original name from 1982.
