Iranian-British Charity Worker Returns to Prison in Iran After Furlough

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian charity worker who has been held in Tehran on sedition charges for more than two years, was sent back to prison on Sunday after temporary release, AFP reported.

The Free Nazanin campaign released images Thursday showing Zaghari-Ratcliffe hugging her 4-year-old daughter, Gabriella, during her release.

Hunt tweeted: "Looks like Iranian legal system is impervious to the simple fact at the heart of this: an innocent woman is desperate to be reunited with her family".

He said on Friday: "Her lawyer is very confident that it will be extended".

Yesterday her husband Richard, 43, who remains in Britain, described how Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe spent her last day of freedom at her daughter's nursery.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt urged Iranian authorities called on Iranian authorities to allow her to return to her family in the United Kingdom on Thursday. "How can I survive tonight - with those tears of my baby, pouting and crying, and telling me she doesn't want me to go back", she was quoted as saying by the family.

The Free Nazanin campaign said that after several weeks of bureaucracy over her possible temporary release, Zaghari-Ratcliffe was told on Thursday morning that she had 10 minutes to get ready because she was being freed.

The last I spoke to Nazanin was in the vehicle on the way back to prison and she was just devastated.

"I still find it an extraordinary decision", he said in the statement.

"We do not think it is in the best interests of any of our dual national detainees to provide a running commentary on individual cases", the foreign ministry said in a statement. The possibility of a temporary release had been discussed previously, but there had been a number of "false dawns".

Her husband Richard Ratcliffe had been hopeful this would mark the beginning of the end of her ordeal.

Iranian authorities and her lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.

The detention of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe by Iran - on the grounds of spying but most likely in a tit-for-tat arrest to pressurise the British government to pay a debt - is so current that the company have had to add a new ending the show during the Fringe.
