Amazon Ends Prime Discount on Video Game Pre-Orders

On Monday, Twitch said it will drop its "universal ad-free viewing" experience on the Prime program starting on September 14. What you have to do is use your monthly subscription token on a channel that has ad-free viewing turned on.

Amazon's new policy also includes a 60-day limit on the $10 credit, so if you don't need anything for two months after you pre-order your game, you don't get the bonus.

Twitch said it dropped the ad-free viewing experience to generate more money, but not necessarily for itself or for company parent, Amazon. In addition, Amazon Prime members will lose their 20% game preorder discount after August 28, 2018. And if you bought an annual subscription, you'll continue to be able to watch without ads until your next renewal date.

"Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible", Twitch wrote in its announcement to subscribers.

If you're still looking to get an ad-free experience across all channels, you can subscribe to Twitch Turbo, which is a $9 per month service. With ads, the platform and game creators can get a cut. However, Twitch Prime probably wasn't generating much money for the platform; it now comes as a free benefit tacked on to Amazon Prime. "We want Twitch to remain a place where anyone can enjoy one-of-a-kind interactive entertainment, and ads allow us to continue making Twitch the best place for creators to build communities around the things they love and make money doing it".

Twitch Prime is still, and will always be, packed with premium benefits you can't get anywhere else.

Amazon raised the price of Prime earlier this year in the United States, so it's now time for the other shoe to drop. According to Twitch, it has offered Twitch Prime members more than $1,000 worth of free games and in-game loot for games like "Fortnite", "PUBG" and "Hearthstone".

Thanks to every Twitch Prime member for supporting Twitch and your favorite streamers.
