Trump calls Manafort prosecution 'a hoax,' says Sessions should stop Mueller investigation

Giuliani also said Monday that "the odds are against" a Trump interview with Mueller, but that he "wouldn't be shocked" if the President went through with it because he "wants to do it so badly".

President Trump escalated his attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia Probe Wednesday.

Mueller was appointed special counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after Sessions recused himself from the probe, citing his work on Trump's 2016 campaign.

Trump, in a series of tweets blasting the investigation, said Sessions should "stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further". "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to the US!"

Richard Blumenthal, a former prosecutor, said Trump's tweets could help build a case of obstruction of justice against him.

The US president called on Jeff Sessions, his attorney general, to halt the investigation that has dogged his presidency nearly since it began.

The White House said the tweet was not an order to Sessions and that Trump was expressing his frustration with the length of the probe.

"It's the president's opinion", she said.

Mueller is investigating whether the Trump campaign aided or abetted an attempt by Russian Federation to sway the 2016 presidential election, or tried to cover up the conspiracy.

Trump said the charges against Manafort "have nothing to do with Collusion".

Trump said the "Russian hoax" is holding up his approach to Russia, and he lashed out at the media, which he said unfairly maligned last month's meeting.

Giuliani also told reporters the president's legal team was in the middle of ongoing negotiations with Mueller, as a report in The Washington Post said the special counsel had offered to reduce the number of questions in exchange for a sit-down interview.

Agalarov is on record saying in a Vice interview that he spoke with Trump Jr. before the meeting. But Trump, flustered by the probe, is reportedly pushing his team to keep negotiating under the belief he can clear himself of wrongdoing in an interview.

U.S. President Donald Trump's national security team said on Thursday that Russia is behind "pervasive" attempts to interfere in upcoming U.S. elections, in a rejection of denials of meddling that Russian President Vladimir Putin made directly to Trump. The Agalarovs partnered with the Trump Organization in hosting the Miss Universe pageant in 2013, which, as you probably know, was held in Moscow.

Trump Jr. has since downplayed the meeting, suggesting that it was primarily about Russian-American adoptions under the Magnitsky Act.

The president's tweet was merely reiterating that his camp wants the investigation over "sooner rather than later", Sanders said.

Trump asked whether his former top political aide was being treated worse than Al Capone, tweeting that Manafort is "now serving solitary confinement - although convicted of nothing?"

"I don't know why Rudy seemed to think that obstruction by tweet is a insane notion", Rodgers said.

The special counsel is still seeking to press Trump on topics related to obstruction, including some questions about the firing of then-FBI Director James Comey, but not as many as Mueller originally sought.

Litman, meanwhile, told anchor Brooke Baldwin that he would construe Trump's tweet as a command.
