US politician who used racial slur on Baron Cohen show to resign

A USA state lawmaker is resigning after a humiliating appearance on comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's television show during which he exposed himself and shouted racial slurs.

Cohen posed as Israeli "anti-terrorist expert" Colonel Erran Morad, who told Spencer he could scare off ISIS terrorists by dropping his trousers and charging them with his bare butt while threatening to turn them into homosexuals.

Spencer repeatedly shouts a racial slur for black people after Cohen tells him the tactic is useful for drawing bystanders' attention to an unfolding attack.

Spencer, who lost the Republican primary election earlier this year, apologized for the on-air behavior and comments, but fought to keep his position, reports NY Daily News.

He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "In posing as an Israeli agent, (Cohen) pretended to offer self-defense exercises".

Jason Spencer, who made an outrageous spectacle of himself on a segment of Showtime's "Who Is America," bearing his buttocks and shouting the "n" word copious times, among other things, has given his resignation.

But the calls for his resignation continued, and a spokesman for the Georgia House Speaker said he had handed in his resignation.

A one-sentence note from Mr Spencer reads: "This email/letter is to serve as an official resignation notice to your office that I will be resigning my post effective July 31, 2018".

They first discussed Spencer's support of a burqa ban.

In a letter to the Post on Monday, amid a firestorm of condemnation, Spencer gave the flimsy excuse that Cohen took advantage of his fear of a terrorist attack.

"Rep. Spencer's words and behavior are hurtful, insensitive, and completely unacceptable".

Mrs Palin pre-empted the airing saying on Facebook: "I join a long list of American public personalities who have fallen victim to the evil, exploitive, sick "humour" of the British "comedian" Sacha Baron Cohen, enabled and sponsored by CBS/Showtime".
