Woman arrested for transporting children in dog kennels

A Tennessee woman was arrested after a video apparently showed her letting children out of pet kennels in the back of a parked vehicle.

According to Memphis police, Leimome Cheeks, 62, said there was no room inside her vehicle, so she told the seven and eight-year-olds to get inside the kennels.

At the time of her arrest, Cheeks of Whitehaven admitted driving several miles with the children, aged 7 and 8 years old inside the dog kennels.

Cheeks told police that she placed the children in the kennels, but she made sure to check on them periodically.

Temperatures were in the mid-90's Saturday in the city. I couldn't see her actually doing that.

Ms Cheeks can be seen opening the cage doors to the kennels as the children hop out.

Further investigation is now underway. According to an affidavit, Cheeks drove the kids from Whitehaven to Collierville, then to Downtown Memphis in 95 degree heat.
