Trump's statement was made just before he left: the U.S. president has been at odds with the G-7 countries over mounting import duties disagreements.

Trump on Saturday withdrew support for a joint statement issued by the other G-7 nations ― Canada, the U.K. Germany, France, Italy and Japan ― just hours after expressing support for it.

"The continuation of sanctions is clearly linked to Russia's failure to demonstrate complete implementation of its commitments in the Minsk Agreements and respect for Ukraine's sovereignty", it said.

President Donald Trump announced last month the United States was withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal and re-imposing sanctions that would hit worldwide businesses working in the Islamic republic.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday said he welcomed President Donald Trump's call for allowing his country back into the Group of Seven, even as that proposal was dismissed by most of the leaders of the other nations that comprise the partnership.

Trump said in March that he and Putin would meet soon, but since then already poor ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated further over the conflict in Syria and the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Britain.

Mr Putin arrived for a three-day state visit during which he will attend the Qingdao Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on the weekend.

"Russia has done nothing to earn its way back to the table", Donilon also said.

As a result of that, he said: "Playing in the World Cup would tick a box - but I've still got a few more boxes I want to tick". Jordan Henderson, captaining the side in Kane's absence, saw a powerful effort turned behind by Navas.

Putin says he’s ‘ready’ to return to G7 after Trump suggestion
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a personal appeal for a meeting with Trump on Saturday. Under Trump, the United States has abandoned its traditional role in the G7.

'As soon as the United States side is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule'.

"I think it would be an asset to have Russian Federation back in", Trump said during an impromptu press conference at the summit. Meanwhile, there may never have been a president of the United States who is so unremittingly hostile to America's closest allies.

China and Russian Federation already enjoy a relatively extensive economic dialogue, which has warmed in several areas since the crisis in Ukraine that contributed to Moscow's suspension from the G8. "We have opened both our country and our hearts to the world".

China and Russian Federation have been moving closer amid heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington on economic and military fronts, and as Moscow struggles with US-led sanctions.

"There is no doubt that foreign interference in our democratic institutions and processes, and other forms of hostile activity, pose a strategic threat to our shared values and interests", British Prime Minister Theresa May said at the G7 Summit on Saturday.

Putin said disagreements within the G7 should not be overestimated.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining regional stability and security, he added, "we want to see a secure and stable Afghanistan, and the coordination of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan is very important for the security and development of the region".

As trade grows, the two countries are promoting settlements in ruble and yuan, bypassing the U.S. dollar and other Western currencies.
