RED's Hydrogen One will be available at AT&T and Verizon this summer

At least now RED has unveiled which carriers will sell the phone — Verizon and AT&T. That widespread availability is a nice feather in the cap for the Hydrogen, a $1,200 Android phone that's said to boast a revolutionary 3D display.

Verizon has just announced it will carry the RED Hydrogen One, world's first holographic smartphone. The $1,200 smartphone has a groundbreaking 5.7-inch screen capable of displaying a "better than 3D image" without the need for glasses or an augmented reality headset.

To take advantage of the capabilities of the Hydrogen One handsets, Red is also set to launch what it calls its Hydrogen Network, which will feature 4-View video content channel displaying films, music and games created by developers, musicians and directors, alongside independent creators, according to Verizon.

AT&T will also be hosting a "first look event" on June 2-3 as part of the AT&T Shape Event at the Warner Bros.

Ebola virus outbreak RAVAGES Congo as death toll rises to 20
The first batch of around 4,000 Ebola vaccines was sent by the World Health Organization to the DRC capital Kinshasa on Wednesday. Additionally, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Travel Alert Level 2 related to this outbreak.

Red will have its own friends-and-family debut for the Hydrogen One this Saturday, May 19, in a special user event at Red Studios in Hollywood, but neither of today's announcements included any word on a ship date for the phone.

Preorders for the phone were first available last July directly from RED for a hefty price: $1,200, but they have since closed. We also know the phone will be compatible with modules similar to how the Moto Z or Essential Phone operate.

A recent report from PC Mag described some specs of the Hydrogen One.

Verizon hasn't shared a release date or, more importantly, a price for the Red phone. RED is no longer taking pre-orders, which had been priced at $1295 for an aluminum version and $1595 for a titanium model. At the time, Red was looking to launch the phone by early 2018.
